4 years ago my wife broke her right collar bone. It repaired itself, but left a substantial lump, and became tired very quickly. 5 weeks ago she had surgery, and the surgeon broke the bone again and used sutures to ‘tie’ the broken end of the bone down to aid re-growth. The bone has now broken away from the sutures and is worse than before plus a scar measuring 8 cms. We think the start of the new damage began about 30 hours after the operation when a nurse leaned on the right shoulder whilst trying to inject morphine into a catheter stuck to the right side of her neck, and then dropped a heavy ice pack onto the shoulder. The suspicion is that the bone began to splinter at that time, and then a few days later broke loose from the sutures. So, I have a very distressed wife, and she needs to know where we go from here. The surgeon says he cannot operate again for at least 12 months.
